This analysis compares potential ranking factors and thus website characteristics with corresponding Google rankings in both the UK and the U.S. by assessing their statistical correlation.
Their analysis shows how important building a strong Social presence has now become. A correctly built site is the foundation with well researched Keywords and a clean structure for the search engine spiders to be able to follow the content. Link building is still important but the focus has changed to Quality rather than Quantity. Building these links is now going to take a lot longer – the days of buying thousands of links is finished. Your best links now will come as part of the Social building. Get people interested in your content and following you and they will start referencing that content from their own sites. Cracking SEO in the Google Post Panda and Penguin Era is challenging however the data in this report at leasts gives a solid place to start from.
